Playing Rough, continued

Posted by: Nancy Raulston on: September 1, 2009

If the point of a blog post is to generate controversy and dialog, “Playing Rough” was a success.

The replies tended to fall into two groups. Some took exception to my description, saying it was one-sided, didn’t take responsibility for my own part it the dynamic, and generalized the phenomenon to male/female. To those, I apologize. My intent was to share my frustration with my own inability to “solve this problem” when it comes up with my clients. And I admit that the challenge could be as much due to my background and reaction as to the approach of the “aggressive” person.

But the real point was, I (“we”, if I include those who agreed with the post) WANT to understand. I want to be able to share my perceptions, hear someone else’s point of view, make sure we both understand, and build on that understanding. I am open to any advice that any of those who recognize the dynamic may have to offer.
